Driving Uninsured

When you've been cited

If you were covered by insurance, at the time the citation was issued, you need to provide that information to the Court by:

Bringing a letter from your insurance agent to court or having your insurance agent submit a letter verifying coverage for you and the vehicle on the date of the violation.

If you were not insured at the time of the violation and if a conviction is entered, you will need to contact the DMV about submitting an SR-22. Failing to file an SR-22 with the DMV after a Driving Uninsured conviction will result in the suspension of your driving privileges by the DMV.

Cited for Failure to Provide Proof of Insurance

This means that at the time the officer asked you for your insurance card or other proof of insurance you were unable to provide it to him. It does not mean you were uninsured. However, it cannot be dismissed by simply providing proof of insurance.
