About City Council

The City of Coburg operates under the City Charter. The City of Coburg has seven elected officials; the Mayor serves a two-year term and six Councilors that serve four-year terms. The City Council serves as the legislative branch of the City. City Council is responsible for setting policy, adopting the annual budget, adopting laws, determining the services the City provides and the funding levels for those services, and appointing citizens to boards and committees.

Coburg has a council-manager form of government. Policies are set by Mayor and Council, who are elected by the people. Policies are carried out by the City Administrator, who is appointed by the Mayor and Council. The Mayor and Council decide what is to be done; the City Administrator, operating through the entire city staff, does it.
